Shake!

Shake! (formerly The Core and Milkshake! FM) was a television programming block shown by United Kingdom broadcaster Channel 5, original aimed at 8 to 15 year olds.

History

The block originally ran between 2000 and 2007 under various names, and was launched as a new umbrella branding for older kids' programmes on Channel 5 following the earlier demise in 1999 of the Josie D'Arby-hosted weekend afternoon teen series The Mag.

The block launched in 2000 as "The Core", broadcasting Saturday afternoons. A number of original commisonmed programmes were created for the block, such as Harry and Cosh and Atlantis High, a number of imported teens shows were also used.

In Channel 5's major network relaunch of 2002 "The Core" was renamed to Milkshake! FM in January 2002, taking its name from the established Channel 5 preschool-age slot Milkshake!. This block aired in the mid-morning (circa 9am-noon) on Saturdays and Sundays, while a number of programmes aired during the core continued to be broadcast during Saturday afternoon. During late 2002, it was re-branded again as Shake!.

Shake! (album)

Shake! is an album by the blues-rock group the Siegel–Schwall Band. Their third album, it was released in 1968 by Vanguard Records as a vinyl LP. It was later re-released as a CD, also on the Vanguard label.

Shake! was the group's last album to feature Jack Dawson on bass guitar and Russ Chadwick on drums.

Critical reception

On Allmusic, Cub Koda wrote, "Shake! was probably the group's second best album and certainly the one that came the closest to representing their live act.... Lots of fun and fireworks on this one, the sound of a band at the top of their game."

Wood shingle

Wood shingles are thin, tapered pieces of wood primarily used to cover roofs and walls of buildings to protect them from the weather. Historically shingles were split from straight grained, knot free bolts of wood. Today shingles are mostly made by being cut which distinguishes them from shakes which are made by being split out of a bolt.

Wooden shingle roofs were prevalent in the North American colonies (for example in the Cape-Cod-style house), while in central and southern Europe at the same time, thatch, slate and tile were the prevalent roofing materials. In rural Scandinavia, wood shingle roofs were a common roofing material until the 1950s. Wood shingles are susceptible to fire and cost more than other types of shingle so they are not as common today as in the past.

Distinctive shingle patterns exist in various regions created by the size, shape, and application method. Special treatments such as swept valleys, combed ridges, decorative butt ends, and decorative patterns impart a special character to each building.

Baby (musical)

Baby is a musical with a book by Sybille Pearson, based on a story developed with Susan Yankowitz, music by David Shire, and lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr.. It concerns the reactions of three couples each expecting a child. The musical first ran on Broadway from 1983 to 1984.

Synopsis

Three couples, each newly expecting a child, have different but familiar reactions. Lizzie and Danny are university juniors who have just moved in together. Athletic Pam and her husband, Nick, a sports instructor, have had some trouble conceiving. Arlene, already the mother of three grown daughters, is unsure of what to do, contemplating abortion while her husband Alan is thrilled with the thought of a new baby. Throughout the show, these characters experience the emotional stresses and triumphs, the desperate lows and the comic highs, that accompany the anticipation and arrival of a baby.

Musical numbers

"Baby, Baby, Baby (Reprise)" was replaced in the initial run and the original cast recording with the song "Patterns," wherein Arlene contemplates her circular life as mother and wife.

Baby (2007 film)

Baby is a 2007 independent film, considered part of the hood film genre. The film tells the story of an Asian-American youth's gang life in East Los Angeles, set during the mid '80s to the early '90s. Directed by Juwan Chung and starring David Huynh, Tzi Ma, Feodor Chin, Ron Yuan and Kenneth Choi. It has been called "the Asian American Boyz n the Hood" by the San Francisco Chronicle. The film won Best Narrative Feature at the 2007 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and a Special Jury Award for "Outstanding Newcomer" for star David Huynh at the same film festival that year, and a Best Director award for Director Juwan Chung at the 2008 DisOrient Film Festival. It was also distributed by Lionsgate.

Synopsis

Baby is the tragic story of an Asian-American youth trapped in the seedy, dead-end world of hostess bars, pool halls and drug dens that characterize East Los Angeles gang life in the 1980s. Baby (Ryan Andres) is a motherless, poverty stricken 11-year-old with only an alcoholic father (Tzi Ma) to raise him. Things only get worse when he's taken under the wing of his gangster neighbor Tommy (Ron Yuan), who leads him down a path that lands him in Juvenile Hall for manslaughter, with Benny (Feodor Chin) ostracizing Baby from the group. After seven violent years in prison, Baby (now portrayed by David Huynh) is released, but struggles to fit into a society that rejects him, and soon returns to a life of drugs, street gangs and murder, while Benny has risen through the ranks to become the local Crime Boss for a side of the Wah Ching Triad. Only his childhood friends and a lost love offer him any hope of turning his life around before it's too late.

Baby (2015 Hindi film)

Baby is a 2015 Indian action spy thriller film directed by Neeraj Pandey. The film stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role, along with Danny Denzongpa, Anupam Kher, Rana Daggubati, Taapsee Pannu, Kay Kay Menon, Madhurima Tuli and Rasheed Naz in supporting roles. Made on a budget of ₹58.97 crore (US$8.7 million), the film released on 23 January 2015 to generally positive reviews from critics, who particularly praised the direction and Kumar's performance.

Plot

The story follows a team of fictional secret agents called Baby; which is a temporary task force headed by Feroz Khan (Danny Denzongpa) formed in response to the 2008 Mumbai attacks whose job is to find and eliminate terrorists who are planning attacks in India.

Seeed

Seeed is a German band from Berlin. Founded in 1998, they have become well known in Germany and its neighboring countries.

Seeed consists of eleven band members, including three singers, a horn section and a DJ. Seeed is recognized for their unusual use of horns. They have worked with Cee-Lo Green, Anthony B, Tanya Stephens, General Degree as well as other Jamaican artists and producers. Almost all of their music releases feature a popular guest experience. Seeed's lyrics are in German, English and Patois. Their biggest hits in the German Sprachraum were "Dickes B", "Aufstehn", "Ding" and "Music Monks". Although their lyrics are in English and German, most of the songs in German were completely translated into English for the international releases of the Albums Next! and Music Monks.

Their first smash hit was "Dickes B", an ode to Berlin. They won three ECHO Awards. With the international versions of Music Monks and Next!, they found broader success in Germany's neighboring countries, especially France. After their initial success with "Dickes B", in the year 2000, they released their first full-length album a few months later, in 2001: New Dubby Conquerors.
